A federal bankruptcy court in Miami entered a groundbreaking ruling Wednesday afternoon that has upended an increasingly popular fee structure in insolvency filings.

And Merrick L. Gross, a shareholder at Carlton Fields in Miami, said the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida’s ruling would provide more access to legal representation in Chapter 7 cases for debtors with limited means, while establishing protection from the litigators that defend them.
