A Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal ruling provides a stark reminder to attorneys: Closely examine contracts to make sure they clearly state prevailing parties are entitled to recover payment for any time spent litigating fee disputes.

The message is important, because the appellate court won’t award “fees for fees” without a contractual provision, the ruling suggests.
