Haliczer Pettis & Schwamm partners Trisha Widowfield in Fort Lauderdale and Richard Schwamm in Orlando won $6.46 million for the family of 39-year-old Laura Lorena Staib, whom they said doctors took off life support too soon.

“We had asked the jury for a per diem, meaning $100 a day for each of the survivors for their pain and suffering for the rest of their lives, or the rest of the life expectancy of the mother. For Sergio and the kids we asked for $100 a day for each person for the rest of their lives,” Widowfield said. “That ended up being about $1.7 million for each child, and the jurors actually gave $2 million for each child.”
