Hillsborough County must pay more than $1.5 million to a man who was involved in an automobile accident with one of the county’s sheriff’s deputies.

On Dec. 11, 2015, plaintiff Robert Crews, 43, a firefighter and nurse, was driving on the southbound side of Florida Avenue, near its intersection at Bearss Avenue, in Tampa. His sport utility vehicle’s left side was struck by a police cruiser that was being driven by a sheriff’s deputy, Michael Parks, who was executing a left turn toward a parking lot, from the opposite side of Florida Avenue. Crews claimed that he suffered injuries of his back and neck.
