One million dollar settlements aren’t hard to come by in South Florida personal injury litigation, but this one against an Embassy Suites hotel in Miami was different.

That’s because defendants don’t typically settle for seven figures in trip-and-fall lawsuits, according to plaintiffs attorney Justin Shapiro of Leesfield Scolaro in Coral Gables. He noted insurance companies are often hesitant to pay that much, perhaps believing there’s a stigma associated with those cases.
