A jury awarded more than $1.4 million to a man who claimed that a highway accident ended his career as a sheriff’s deputy.

On Dec. 2, 2015, plaintiff Clinton Jenkins, 47, a deputy, was a front-seat passenger of a van that was traveling in the right northbound lane of Interstate 95, near its interchange at State Road 10, in Jacksonville. The van was involved in a sideswipe collision with a northbound sport utility vehicle that was being driven by Malissa Ley, who had been traveling to the immediate left of the van. The van resultantly struck a barrier. Jenkins claimed that he suffered injuries of his back and neck.
