Florida’s Bureau of Crimes Compensation erroneously denied a widow’s compensation claim due to the agency misinterpreting the state’s crime compensation statute, an appeals court held on July 13.
The First District Court of Appeal said the bureau’s decision to deny Nancy Raik’s request for victim compensation went against the Legislature’s intent with the Florida Crimes Compensation Act.
