K&L Gates filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit Wednesday in Florida Southern District Court on behalf of Pirate Ship LLC, a company which orders shipping labels from UPS and USPS based on a customer's manual entry of dimensions for an item. If UPS or USPS later discovers that the item's true dimensions are larger than those inputted on the label, then the carrier adjusts the price and charges Pirate Ship, who then passes the cost onto the customer as a 'Carrier Adjustment.'

The complaint alleges that the defendants created multiple accounts under fictitious business names, incurred Carrier Adjustment fees, then cancelled their debit or credit cards, resulting in $186,921.91 in unpaid fees. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 1:22-cv-22268, Pirate Ship LLC v. Bader et al.
