A jury rejected a malpractice claim arising from the death of a woman who suffered a pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis.

On March 12, 2018, plaintiff’s decedent Jacqueline Dinallo, 50, a retail manager, presented to physician’s assistant Charles Kayat with complaints of coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Kayat prescribed medication and referred Dinallo for a chest X-ray. The X-ray, which was read the following day, showed an enlarged heart and a suspicious mass on the right side.
