A Palm Beach County jury awarded $22,000 to a young man who was injured in an accident with a sport utility vehicle. The award represented medical expenses only. The parties had disputed whether one of the named defendants was correctly identified as the driver of the SUV, and whether the SUV had been stolen by or negligently entrusted to the driver.

On Dec. 7, 2016, plaintiff Johel Ocampo, 18, a high school student, was operating a sedan northbound on Military Trail, in West Palm Beach. As he approached the intersection with Forest Hill Boulevard, he came to a stop at a green light because an oncoming fire truck was turning left onto Forest Hill Boulevard. Upon stopping Ocampo’s sedan was struck in the rear by a trailing SUV. Ocampo claimed neck, back and shoulder injuries.
