The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission has narrowed its list of 15 applicants to six finalists for Gov. Ron DeSantis to potentially choose from to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Rick Polston.

The finalists include Twentieth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Michael T. McHugh, who presides in the civil division. Before McHugh’s appointment by former Gov. Jeb Bush, McHugh was an insurance litigator for Allstate Insurance Co., where he tried more than 50 civil jury trials to verdict, according to his court profile.
