In spite of a recent wave of anti-ESG sentiment across the U.S., global and national law firms remain committed to their sustainability practices. In Florida, where the attacks have been at their sharpest, major firms loathe speaking about the subject.

Over the last year, Republican lawmakers across the country have targeted ESG as part of a shift toward leaning on culture war issues. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., signed a 2022 letter to Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, threatening to “scrutinize the institutionalized antitrust violations being committed in the name of ESG.” In early May, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 3, a bill banning ESG-related investments using state funds.
