Charter Communications was slapped with a consumer class action on Sept. 14 in Florida Circuit Court for Hillsborough County. The suit, brought by the Consumer Protection Firm, alleges that instead of airing college football on ESPN on Aug. 31, the defendant displayed a message blaming Disney for stalled carriage negotiations and encouraged customers to either visit DisneyESPNFairDeal.com or call the defendant to cancel their services. According to the complaint, calls to the defendant went unanswered, and the defendant did not refund customers for the service outage as promised. The blackout ended Sept. 11. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 23-CA-015221, Gonzalez v. Charter Communications Inc.
