A New York law firm that sued Florida billionaire John Ruiz’s public company in a securities class action argued Tuesday evening in response to an order to show cause for improper solicitation of clients that if the claim for sanctions was granted, it would have a reverberating impact on attorney advertising.

Laurence Rosen of the Rosen Law Firm represents the plaintiff, Joe Pignatelli, in a case he’s since sought to dismiss against multiple defendants. Those sued included MSP Recovery Inc. in a shareholder securities class action in which plaintiff’s counsel used a common practice of a press release to find potential class members.
