The U.S. president announced Wednesday his intention to nominate five individuals to the federal district court bench, four of whom would preside in Florida.

Carl Tobias, an expert on judicial appointments at the University of Richmond School of Law in Virginia, noted that strategically, three of the four nominees by President Joe Biden currently preside as federal magistrate judges. Tobias said Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott will be more inclined to vote in favor of these nominees due to their experience as magistrates.
