A Palm Beach Circuit Court jury said two defendants in a defamation trial must pay for what they allegedly said about a Florida businessman—to the tune of $1.45 million.

When asked to decide on the fate of defendants in Pontes Lima v. Fanani, jurors said "yes" to three questions on whether the defendants made false written statements that accused plaintiff committing an infamous crime; subjected the plaintiff to hatred, distrust, ridicule, contempt or disgrace; and injured the plaintiff in his trade or profession.
