The ex-president of the National Association of Professional Football of Chile sued Amazon and additional defendants in a federal district court in Miami for defamation over their portrayal of him in a drama series committing a variety of allegedly fabricated crimes related to the 2015 FIFA scandal.
Giacomo Bossa, a partner at Barakat + Bossa in Coral Gables—who represents the plaintiff, Sergio Jadue, against the defendants, including Amazon Studios LLC and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc.—said the case is among recent lawsuits that claim companies with online streaming platforms compromised the way they tell stories amid fierce competition with one another.
