In January, Miami voted to effectively fire then-city attorney Victoria Méndez following a slew of scandals revolving around her. Monday, Shutts & Bowen hired her as a partner.

The city commission originally voted to extend Mendez’s contract for just five months back in January after she spent decades working for the city. The decision came amid a number of controversies, including one where she is accused of abusing her power to help her husband conduct a house-flipping scheme in the same jurisdiction. The accusations spurred a pending lawsuit against her as well as a Florida Bar investigation.
