After Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida Thursday, closing all but six county courts and shuttering the Florida Supreme Court, for two days, its remnants took aim further north of the country. Still, in its wake, the hurricane continued to affect Florida's legal community.

While Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade Counties were spared the brunt of Hurricane Helene, other locations to the north took a much harder hit.

"The devastation is unthinkable. These communities no longer resemble what they were a week ago," said Buncombe County, North Carolina manager Avril Pinder in a Facebook Zoom meeting. "Loved ones are still trapped."
