Chicago-based Sperling & Slater has struck a deal to merge with Miami's Kenny Nachwalter, creating at 60-attorney firm with robust antitrust capabilities.

The firms intend to finalize the merger in December, and the new firm will be known as Sperling Kenny Nachwalter. Sperling & Slater currently has 42 attorneys between its Chicago and Nashville offices, while Kenny Nachwalter has 18 attorneys in Miami, Washington, D.C. and Texas.

Both firms have known each other since the mid 1990s, and have talked about merging passively over the years. But in recent years, both firms started thinking about how to position their lawyers for success over the next 40 years, and merging was a good step in that direction, Kenny Nachwalter vice president William Blechman said.
