For many years, Florida Lawyers Assistance was a haven for lawyers who needed help. Now it has become an adversarial arm of the Florida Bar that no longer serves Florida’s legal profession. FLA should encourage help-seeking behaviors and not seek to hijack the doctor-patient relationship for its own survival.

Last month, the Department of Justice found that the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners (TBLE) and the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP) were violating the Americans with Disabilities Act by discriminating against bar applicants based on their past diagnosis of or treatment for substance use or mental health disorder.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.
