Miami-Dade County Court Judge Amy Karan, former administrative judge of the domestic violence division, has resigneddue to illness.
In a touching letterto fellow Miami-Dade judges describing “this time of extreme sadness in my life,” Karan said she has an aggressive form of Parkinson’s disease and has lost the ability to speak. She said she was diagnosed in 2006, but her specialist upgraded his assessment in 2009, “indicated that it was a sure diagnosis, it is terminal and progressive, and all of my doctors and specialists agree with him.”
