Feeling the negative effects of the recession as much as some of the debtors they try to work with, consumer debt collection agencies foresee little relief this year from difficult business conditions.

Debt collection agencies would love to take in more fees as consumer credit defaults spread. But collectors’ ability to turn assignments of servicing rights for delinquent accounts, or placements, into cash may stagnate until unemployment subsides.
