Courts, clerks, state attorneys and public defenders entered the 2010 legislative session with a sense of dread that state lawmakers would have little choice but to cut spending on Florida’s judicial system to balance the budget.

Instead it appears many will tread water for another year, although courts still must deal with backlogged court dockets, and clerks may have to figure out a way to deal with higher expenses but roughly the same amount of money as a year earlier. Many clerk’s offices last year were forced to shut down offices and lay off employees.
