The state’s largest power company is traveling a long and bumpy road in its plans to string electric transmission lines on huge towers along U.S. 1 in Miami-Dade County. Florida Power & Light, a unit of the newly renamed NextEra Energy, says the lines – to run from the Turkey Point power plant near Homestead to downtown Miami – are urgently needed to keep up with the electricity demands of a growing area.
