A 2008 inspection for exotic plants aboard a cargo ship docked on the Miami River may add another twist in the ever-evolving standard for a lawful search and seizure.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals got the legal community’s attention May 27 when it upheld the child pornography conviction of Hilario Alfaro-Moncada, a 60-year-old Salvadoran crew member who has spent most of his life as a cook on cargo ships.
