The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday kept alive most of a Jacksonville lawyer’s challenge to The Florida Bar’s strict attorney advertising rules.

William Harrell Jr. of Harrell & Harrell sued The Bar and is represented by Public Citizen, a Washington-based watchdog group. Harrell contested the Bar’s refusal to allow him to use the slogan “don’t settle for less than you deserve” and his own choice of background sounds. He also challenged a requirement that lawyers must submit their radio and television ads to The Bar at least 20 days in advance, among other issues.
