The Gulf of Mexico oil spill could imperil yet another species – Florida banks.

That’s what Florida Bankers Association president Alex Sanchez is warning as the spill crimps the $60 billion tourism industry and other segments of Florida’s economy and the ability of other businesses to repay bank loans. That could contribute to additional bank failures in a state where nearly one in three banks are “problem” banks in regulators’ eyes.
