A U.S. Supreme Court opinion Thursday narrowing the scope of the honest services fraud law will significantly affect the way federal prosecutors attack public corruption, South Florida attorneys say.
“This case clearly has far-reaching implications in South Florida because the FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office has been aggressive in matters of public corruption, and this law is a major part of their arsenal,” said Guy Lewis, a former federal prosecutor who served as an interim U.S. attorney and who is in private practice with Lewis Tein of Miami.
