Judge Gerald Cope Jr. will retire from the 3rd District Court of Appeal later this year to join Akerman Senterfitt as co-chair of its appellate practice, while two Akerman real estate partners are moving to other firms next-door.

The law firm on Wednesday confirmed Cope will leave the appellate bench after 21 years to lead its appellate practice with former 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Joseph Hatchett.
