The newly enacted Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is intended to address perceived deficiencies and gaps in the regulatory framework for financial services in the United States, reduce the risk of bank failures, and prevent or ameliorate future financial crises.

This sweeping legislation, signed into law last month by President Obama, makes the greatest changes to financial services regulation since the Great Depression.
