The biggest uncertainty regarding City Square is whether developer Mark Siffin and his undisclosed backers can close on the $190 million acquisition of the 10-acre project site from Miami Herald parent McClatchy.

In the type of deal common in the heyday of the real estate market, Siffin agreed to buy the site in a flip from another developer who agreed to purchase the site from the Herald’s then-publisher Knight Ridder.
