A “fiscal hawk” and a “taxpayer watchdog” are fighting it out to see who will be Florida’s next chief financial officer, with one candidate for the Cabinet-level post emphasizing job growth and the other, prudent investment stripped of corruption.

But in a year where so much attention is focused on races for Congress and governor, Republican candidate and presumed front-runner Jeff Atwater concedes getting voters excited about the CFO’s race is a challenge.
