Reacting to new rules from the Florida Supreme Court on confidentiality, Broward Public Defender Howard Finkelstein said he is in the uncomfortable position of trying to broaden the standards for sealing public records.
Out of concern for potential attorney liability, Finkelstein brought scores of motions for confidentiality before Circuit Judges Marcia Beach and William Haury Jr. The cases involve drug abuse and mental illness where addiction, diagnosis and treatment are discussed in open court.
