Broward Public Defender Howard Finkelstein’s dogged refusal to help the County Commission select the county’s first inspector general ended when he lobbed his unwanted authority to a Coral Gables law professor.

Still smarting from last year’s commission vote benefiting bail bondsmen by tightening the pretrial release process, the public defender reluctantly agreed to make an appointment to a selection committee.
