The oath of office was administered by Teresa Escobar, Hirsch’s secretary of 24 years — the only one he’s ever had, according to his wife, Ilene.



Ending a speech about constitutional rights and the persistent fight for liberty, Hirsch said, “I can think of no better use for the remainder of my professional life than to add a candle to the light of that freedom that still burns.”
