Characterizing a dispute between Palm Beach County homeowners and the state as a “clash of philosophies,” an attorney for the state said the counsel for homeowners would have jurors believe fruit trees are like timber.

Following more than a week of testimony, 12 jurors began deliberations Monday afternoon to determine the value of 66,463 trees lost by 26,491 residents during the state’s unsuccessful citrus canker eradication program from 1995 to 2006. The jury went home Monday while still deliberating.
