On the heels of agreeing to pay $68.5 million to settle several state suits over an antipsychotic drug, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals can claim a victory in a related suit filed by labor unions and decided by the Atlanta-based federal appeals court.

The decision continues a trend. While the federal government and states extracted significant settlements from drug companies over alleged illegal marketing, the companies have had success fighting analogous claims by private actors in court.
