For more than 20 years, Miami-Dade County’s Department of Environmental Resource Management has acquired more than 18,000 acres of sensitive land through its Environmentally Endangered Lands program.

Throughout much of the Miami-Dade program’s history, the state’s Florida Forever program — which has purchased more than 668,000 acres with $2.8 billion since its 2001 inception — has been a pivotal funding partner for the county. Teaming with the state was vital to the acquisition of about 500 acres of endangered land in the county through the Miami-Dade County Archipelago project.
