Circuit Judge John Laurent, chairman of the state Trial Court Budget Commission, asked The Florida Bar to oppose the court funding plan being considered by the Legislature.

Laurent, a former state lawmaker from Bartow, has several concerns, while acknowledging 2.25 percent of general revenue would get the courts more funding than they have received in recent years. In a letter to The Bar’s board of governors Thursday, he said the funding method ties the court’s fiscal fate to the ups and downs of sales tax revenue.
