Miami has been chosen to host an international arbitration conference in 2014 that will bring about 1,000 lawyers and arbitrators to the city and, organizers say, showcase the city and its arbitration capabilities.

Miami beat out several other cities vying to host the International Council for Commercial Arbitration, which is held every two years. A cadre of prominent Miami lawyers traveled to Geneva to make the city’s presentation for the conference. Backers include Burton Landy of Akerman Senterfitt, Jose Astigarraga of Astigarraga Davis, John Barkett of Shook Hardy & Bacon, Daniel Gonzalez of Hogan Lovells and Judy Freedberg of the University of Miami School of Law.
