Marika Tolz, one of South Florida’s most prolific trustees and receivers before her dramatic downfall last year, says she turned to fraud because she needed money to pay for medical treatment for her ailing mother.

She is scheduled to be sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez. The Hollywood licensed real estate broker faces between eight and 10½ years in prison after pleading to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud.
