Six years ago, Portland, Oregon-based Bullivant Houser Bailey had 236 lawyers and aspirations to expand beyond the Pacific Northwest. But after merger talks with LeClairRyan collapsed and a slew of lateral departures, Bullivant is down to 58 lawyers.

The firm is now telling some former shareholders that it plans to extend the repayment schedule for their capital investments by up to six years.
