Judge Paul M. Hawkes of the 1st District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee has resigned and is scheduled to retire effective Jan. 4, 2012.

Hawkes tendered his resignation to Gov. Rick Scott in a letter dated Nov. 9. In his letter he cited how effective the court has become in the last two years with the addition of the electronic filing system and how the court’s competence relies solely on the dedication of its people.
