Several corporate defense lawyers took the witness stand Monday in response to a plaintiff request for sanctions as a South Miami orchid grower resumed her two-decade fight against chemical maker DuPont. She claims DuPont concealed key documents before a trial on damages in June.
Microbiologist Claire Sidran and her husband, Philip, achieved a victory far smaller than they had hoped against DuPont, the maker of the discontinued fungicide, Benlate. Their attorney, Robert Ratiner, is seeking penalties against the company and its attorneys from Shook Hardy & Bacon that are far greater than the $1.02 million awarded by a Miami-Dade Circuit Court jury in June.
