Months after Malaysia-based Genting Group announced plans to build a destination casino resort on the site of the Miami Herald headquarters and the former Omni Mall property, the chamber kicked off the review Monday with a town hall meeting featuring former U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz Balart, a lobbyist for Genting, and casino foe Katy Sorenson, a former Miami-Dade County commissioner.
A chamber committee is to study the mega-resort issue and advise the chamber’s board on whether to endorse or fight the concept.
