In some cases, it’s been nine years since their mobile homes were destroyed by Mother Nature, but a group of mostly senior citizen residents finally will be reimbursed for hurricane losses under the settlement of a class action lawsuit.

U.S. District Judge Donald Graham in Miami on Jan. 26 approved a $40 million settlement in a case covering 7,775 mobile-home owners against Liberty American Insurance related entities in February 2008, claiming they had been short-changed on reimbursement for repairs. Most of the residents were in southwest Florida.
