A senior center and a bus driver agreed to pay $1 million to a 78-year-old scooter rider who braked to avoid a collision with a turning bus.

Joseph Orze was riding on A1A when he claimed a bus driven by Mae Volen Senior Center employee Julio Pinto made an abrupt left turn in front of him, causing him to brake and fall to the ground. Orze required open reduction and internal fixation with a proximal humeral prosthetic replacing the left humerus, and had to wear his arm in a sling. He had a second surgery after his shoulder became infected. He underwent extensive physical therapy after the fall to alleviate his symptoms but said he suffered daily pain and was unable to work.
