State clerks of court, optimistic days ago that their annual funding would stay near the current level, were shocked to learn the state Senate propose a 7 percent cut in final legislative budget talks.

Calling the situation dire, Palm Beach Clerk & Comptroller Sharon Bock said Friday the proposed $31.2 million cut would cripple clerks as well as the entire judicial system.
