The Sanford area state attorney who asked for a special prosecutor to investigate the shooting death of Trayvon Martin said he made the request “with the intent of toning down the rhetoric and preserving the integrity of this investigation.”

Gov. Rick Scott appointed an outside prosecutor late last week to probe Martin’s death and formed a task force that will review the state’s controversial “stand your ground” law.
